Eaton Dunkelberger has 2 children who love to ski. Every winter weekend, you will find Eaton and his wife at Sky Tavern, a Tahoe-based non-profit that promotes affordable winter recreation by encouraging and training parent volunteers.
Eaton is a Professional Ski Instructor Association certified Level 1 telemark instructor and is the volunteer co-director of the Sky Tavern Sky Kids program for 4-6 year-olds. Each weekend we coach parent volunteers to teach about 150 young kids to ski.
In his day job, Eaton leads Sierra Nevada Journeys, a non-profit that serves 35,000, primarily low-income students each year across northern Nevada and California with science, engineering, and environmental education.
My Ski Journey
Early Skiing
I learned to ski on the East Coast as a kid, and was fortunate enough to have an incredible teen club through my middle school to practice skiing as a teen.
Telemark
I learned to Telemark in the Marine Corps at their Mountain Warfare Training Center and never looked back.
I earned my PSIA Level 1 Ski Instructor certification in 2020.
Dad Skiing
Now I spend most of my time chasing kids on skis through the steeps and the trees!
