Establishing a routine to put on your kids ski gear

Getting a routing in place for putting on ski gear is really important. As you can imagine, getting dressed and fed, and then travelling to the mountain for a 9am lesson is often a challenge.

Important steps we take to be ready each morning are:

  • Going to sleep in our long johns / long underwear the night before
  • Laying out clothes on the floor the night before, in the order they dress in, so our kids can manage getting dressed themselves and are not constantly asking “where’s my ….”
  • No tech and no breakfast until you are dressed to ski (minus boots, jacket, helmet and gloves)
  • We wear the majority of our clothes we ski in while we drive to the resort, that way we are not trying to put on a lot of layers in the cold parking lot!
  • We bring a waterproof bag to stash layers in, that we typically leave in the base area, which prevents us from having to go all the way back to our car as the day warms up

Get good at getting your child dressed for their day of skiing will help everything go more smoothly. And, having layering options that don’t force you to return to the car at lunch, is an important strategies to keep everyone sane and skiing.
