5 ski accessories for a great first day

Here’s what you need to bring with you for your child to have a fantastic first day on the hill:

  1. Waterproof Gloves or Mittens
    • Required to be worn when skiing
    • Please make sure all gloves are waterproof.  No cotton gloves — these will get soaked
    • Consider bringing a second pair if you plan to ski with your child in the afternoon, even waterproof gloves get soaked after a few hours of snow eating and glove chewing
  2. Helmet
    • Required to be worn when skiing
    • Snug fit.  When they shake their head, the helmet does not slide over their eyes or above their hair line
    • Put a piece of tape with your child’s name on the front of their helmet in BIG letters
    • We recommend you do not wear any hats under the helmet as your child will be hot
  3. Goggles
    • Goggles or Sunglasses are required to be worn (on your eyes) when skiing
    • Googles come in lots of styles, so please make sure they are tinted to protect eyes from the sun, and make sure they protect your child’s eyes from wind
  4. A face covering – optional but recommended
    • Strong winds on your face can make the toughest skiers miserable.  Consider wearing one of the following:  ski mask, buff, turtle fur, neck wrap, gaiter, balaclava
    • Get something thinner rather than thicker like a Buff brand face covering.  The main purpose is to block the wind
  5. Sunscreen – please use it and reapply at lunch
    • Sticks work great for skiing. See the link above for a great option to choose.
